Hants police save £100k with e-tool

Hampshire Constabulary believes it has slashed its training costs on a new time-and-attendance IT system by thousands of pounds.

The force claims its decision to use e-learning to provide training for its 5,000 employees in the CARM IT system has saved it nearly £100,000.

Reduced travel and accommodation costs have accounted for most of the savings.

"While it's not money in the pocket, it does mean we're doing the training in a much more effective and efficient way," comments Paul Stokes, Hampshire's CARM project manager.

The force used Knowledge Solutions' e-learning system to both deliver and then develop the online course in CARM.

The system maintains records of staff activities and tasks, which the force hopes will enable it to improve its efficiency.

"The advantage of CARM is that we have one system and a common standard with which to operate," says Stokes. "It also means we can monitor working hours, which is important given the introduction of the working time directive."

Hampshire Police is also using the KSHelper tool to provide context-sensitive help to CARM users.
